My Story

The STORY OF FIG MOBILE FASHION

I was affected by COVID in a way I would not have foreseen. I was with Southwest Airlines for over 20 years, working for the first 9 as a flight attendant. I was flying during 9/11, so I was in a career that has these huge, impactful moments.

I never thought I'd see something again that affected the airlines to that degree. And then, almost 20 years later a pandemic grounds most flights.

Southwest was wonderful, and so many of those people are like family, but they were also desperate to cut operational costs. I decided to take a big ol' leap of faith, and follow a dream, which is where the name FIG first presented itself: Faith In God: FIG, and FIG reversed, to me, is God In Fashion.

It's was funny - my friends fell into 2 camps, those that said 'what are you thinking??, and those who said 'that's so exciting!' I'm thankful for that balance, because you realize you need those checks and balances.

It was a year in the making and the test driving of a lot of trucks; and I ended getting this crazy-big, retired CHP Command Center. (There are buttons that look like the bridge of the old original Star Trek Enterprise. I don't even know what they do!:)

The fashion part comes in because 95% of my own wardrobe has consistently been vintage. Friends are always asking to go shopping with me and I love helping people with cool finds (and I always buy way too much) so now everything was converging :-)

So, I rolled the Command center with black paint, found a wonderful artist to help me with an idea I had for a graphic, and it is very imperfect in a perfect way to me.

So far I've had so many highlights, but one that sticks is a woman with a cool funky style who bought a jumpsuit. She tried it on and loved it, and while talking, she was super excited saying that what she loved most was that cool, funky, stylish, affordable clothes could be available to people with or without means. I think I could have opened a cute shop and maybe marked items higher, but I prefer this model. I do private events where people with means can have a lot of fun with finds, but the same store with the exact same prices can roll into a neighborhood with perhaps less means and it's still affordable. It's a lot of work, but I'm loving it :-)
